How to enter characters of another language? A question asked again

I'm asking this question again, because my previous thread on the same topic went nowhere.

How do I enter characters of my national language (Simplified Chinese) into the system?

Someone suggested "Keyboard Layout Switcher", but that's not what I need here.

I thought there was a combination of keystrokes, by which I can switch into another input mode and enter characters of another language. This is true on the Windows system, where you press [Ctrl]+[Space] to switch between input modes.

Please help!

And when something goes a day or longer without being answered, feel free to bump the existing thread. This is a double post so now its being closed as we do not allow double posting.
