How to Encrypt an External HD for a DualBoot System?

Hi folks,

I'm setting up a new system for my notebook with Windows and Debian, and to ease stuff, I've an external HD with NTFS to be opened by both.
But now I'd like to encrypt, and I ask, is there any way to encrypt a device and still be able to use it in both OS?
I'd like to know, also, if it's possible to do the same with a partition in the internal HD.

Truecrypt can encrypt a volume and is compatible with Linux, Windows, and OSX. That is if you're comfortable using an encryption tool that is no longer maintained (but last I heard still has no major vulnerabilities).

Thanks for that, I knew some groups were looking into picking up where Truecrypt left off, but I didn't realize that had come to fruition yet.
