How to convert partition to LVM?

Hi all!

Running RH9, 512 MB RAM, 2 HDD, Athlon XP 1800, ASUS 7100 AGP graphics. This is just an ftp server, that is it's whole function in life, to store and serve up SHN files.

Here is df -h output:

Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/hda2 20G 1.9G 17G 11% /
/dev/hda1 99M 14M 80M 15% /boot
/dev/hdb4 90G 85G 455M 100% /ftp
none 251M 0 251M 0% /dev/shm

I have about 40 GB on hdb and about 35 GB on hda, neither is partitioned and I would like to add that space to /ftp partition. I know it can be done easily with LVM, but can I convert the /ftp partition (ext3) to an LVM and not loose any data?

The reason for the funky partioning is I added a new HDD (hda), installed RH9 on it and blew away boot, / and usr partitions that were on hdb when it was a RH7.3 system.

Thanks for any input!

@ LVM! Please be gentle!
