That's because you are trying to use port 25 on gmail. Do not use gmail, use *your* mailserver.

It is supposed to work with your mail server, not gmail

Anyway, I've installed mutt from sources and it does not segfaults as the stock slackware mutt binary. The only differences I can see running mutt -v for both binaries, are the following (in bold):
