How to choose a good mirror for apt-get/Synaptic

hello pips :)

I use apt-rpm (apt-get on suse) and installed synaptic.
I use this mirror: ftp://ftp.gwdg.de SuSE/9.0-i386

I have a cable modem.
right now I'm trying to update racer, 7981k and it is taking forever!

so I decided that I want to use a diffrent mirror.
so... how do I choose the best mirror for me?

thanks ;)

I would choose more than one. That way if one mirror is missing something it still shows up when you apt-get update. Other than that I would say choose mirrors closest to your location for speed purposes.

good idea!

but I don't have any links, I need to find a page with a list of mirrors...

can you help a bit more? ;)

thanks...

A little google goes a long way.

From http://linux01.gwdg.de/apt4rpm/home.html

For SuSE 7.1(!) and up an apt repository is provided by the university of Erlangen (Germany). The apt repository can be reached via: ftp://ftp.uni-erlangen.de/pub/Linux/MIRROR.suse and via http
http://ftp.uni-erlangen.de/pub/Linux/MIRROR.suse

nope, didn't work :(

I already been to that page and tried it... those mirrors don't work for me at all.
When I try to update the list with one of them I get Failed Failed...

Here is a copy of my sources.list file:

# Repository created by: aptate (version 0.65.3)

Right now it works but very slowly... but mirrors.mathematik.uni-bielefeld.de doesn't work for me.

so what do I do now?

I would try to locate http based sources if ftp sources aren't working for you (firewall maybe?). You will have to do some heavy googling as I don't know of any for SuSE 9 as of yet..

:(

I didn't find any other mirrors for SuSE 9... bumer...
