How to boot from an external USB drive?

I just installed Mandrake 10.0 Community on my laptop's external USB HD, but I can't get it to boot because the BIOS doesn't support booting from USB, is there any solution to this?
The only thing i could think until now was to make some kind of "boot disk" to load the usb drivers and then start the "real" boot, but this is way out of reach for my current knowledge...
Any help is deeply appreciated =)

Take care all.

yes what you would do is somehow create a floppy boot disk, that has the appropriate usb modules on it and loaded before time to mount the root partiotion.
