How to associate certain files with certain programs


Which config file or where can i associate for example .mp3 files to always open with amarok or someother program.

If it is KDE you are running, System --> Configuration --> KDE --> Components --> File Associations. That will bring up a list of app types, example - audio. You can associate what ever app you like with file type there. I'm sure Gnome would have something similar.

Thanks, but i find it easier and more universal to edit scripts or configs is there any way to do it like this?

What you are doing is editing mime types. Have a look at this pdf and you will get some insight into the many files invovled.

I think the gui tools are in place because there are many files invoved.
