How to add apps to a distro with no pkg manager?

I'm trying to add various apps to pmagic-4.4/4.5 as pmagic
is made with slack12.2 and some debian

no pkg manager though
apps must be "hand-installed"
http://partedmagic.com/documentation...-programs.html

I believe I need binary pkgs
is there a place to get 12.2 binarys with depends pre-installed?

Problem is I don't know how to figure out all the depends for say, Gimp?

I don't want to add the apps to pmagic/pmodules as there loaded to ram
which is inconveinent compared to having them installed into the pmagic.sqfs filesystem

I want to add Gimp and maybe Audacious

what should I do guys?

You need to install from source.
Are there any compilers installed ?
Download the tar from gimp, and start configure, it will tell you what is missing.

Well
I thought about that too repo
thats a good idea, though it would mean alot of trial and error work

what exactly does this mean repo

Parted Magic is not exactly Slackware based, but the main tool
chain was compiled on Slackware.
also, is there maybe a possibility that Slax apps would work?
do they already contain the depends?
whats a pkg called if it comes with all depends?
is that a binary or whats that called?

If you would like to add programs your best bet is to use TGZ packages from Slackware 12.x. You can also use DEB files, but Parted Magic doesn't make any attempt to resolve dependencies

Seems to me you need to solve all dependies by hand.

However some programms, like firefox come with all libraries included in the tar.
