how to access NTFS across lan


have a RH box setup, and i wanted to learn how to browse my winXP system that is on my LAN.

A. do i have to set up a share

B. can i access the NTFS system without setting up a share and answereing the user/pw challange?

C. were do i go to access the NTFS system via the GUI?

D. should i even muck with the GUI when trying to do this?

do a search for how to set up samba... there are alot of posts on LQ about samba, or better yet... GOOGLE for it.

other than that, i think there are nfs daemons for windows.. but i'm not sure...

so basicaly i can not browse M$ OS without samba?

M$ have relased a free unix compatiblty application whic you can downloaded from micro$soft for free.

as far as i recall it includes nfs support so you can connect to windows without samba

check out google microsoft unix compatiblity
