on average about a few months... except this summer we've had a few thunder storms which knocked the power out.

I only reboot as needed. That usually works out to every week or so.

My system is a laptop, though, so most of my reboots are for transportation purposes.

Most of the year I reboot only when reinstalling, loading new kernel, etc. In the summer, every night or every thunderstorm, whichever comes first.

I reboot for power outages and kernel upgrades. I will probably start messing around with live kernel upgrades at some point.

well as my laptop is my linux workstation its gets rebooted every day or so.

my linux server was last 45 days and rebooted after a major security update to the kernel.

my firewall runs IPCop, it has not been rebooted in over 2 years.

Every day for my desktop

astrogeek 07-29-2014 05:46 PM

My primary personal desktop (which is actually a laptop) once per day.

Others as needed.

I used to leave things running for longer periods as a hardware saving measure. But nowdays I try to shutdown anything that I know won't be used for more than couple of hours as a power saving measure - I can see the difference it makes in $$ and the silicon is much more robust than it used to be IMO!

Not having to reboot your computer every time it turns around is one of the joys of using Linux. It's the Energizer Bunny of operating systems.

The only machine I shut down with any regularity is the one in the kitchen, and that's more about saving power than it is about the computer.

On the other hand, my girlfriend hates to reboot her Windows computers, no matter how many dustbunnies have collected under the Windows sofa.

Code:

willie@kahuna ~]$ uptime
 22:51:25 up 2 days, 17:28,  3 users,  load average: 0.25, 0.11, 0.09

Laptop and machine connected to bedroom TV everyday.

My i7 Haswell gets turned off when I am not at home which can be a couple times a week to a couple times a month.
Once MATE fixes the shutdown issue it has I'll shut it down everyday cause electricity is expensive.

I have been using linux about 3 years now, with different distros, and i had to reboot my computer for a problem like 6 times in total.
Thats the cool of this.

for my desktop, everyday.

PrinceCruise 07-30-2014 03:34 AM

This is India. Power outages are common all around the year everyday. I mostly shutdown the Desktop everyday when I'm done working because the UPS doesn't last more than 30 minutes. Laptop though mostly goes to sleep daily.

Regards.

SIG_SEGV 07-30-2014 04:05 AM

I do shutdown once a day....

Power Cuts and UPS capacity are the dependencies in INDIA that keep my electronic devices sometime dead sometime alive... :)
