Yeah, mplayer will take a while to compile. It depends on your system, but on my Athy 900 it takes a good 20 minutes. Usually I will compile mplayer when I am getting ready to go eat dinner, then let make run til I return.

As long as it doesn't error out, ignore the "warnings".

Cool

When I compile mplayer, it usually would take a little more than 10 minutes or so on the 'make' command. I'll tend to just do a:

./configure [options] &&
make

And when that finishes, su to root so I can 'make install' and be finished with, running all this in the background terminal, etc while I working on other stuff.

whereis gcc

This would at least tell you if it's installed or not. Then:
whereis make

Cool

If make is not installed you've got it install it. Search your install discs and locate the package for make. You'll need the following dependencies satisfied (AFAIK, I am gathering this from here: http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/view...er06/make.html ):
Autoconf
Automake
Bash
Binutils
Diffutils
Fileutils
Gcc
Glibc
Grep
M4
Gawk
Sed
Sh-utils
Texinfo
Textutils

FYI, you probably have most/all of those already

Cool
