How does everyone use portable mp3 players with Linux?

Since I have been using Linux exclusively, I have ripped many cd's to my hard drive in ogg vorbis format. I recently purchased a portable mp3 player (Creative MUVO.) The MUVO is mountable and accepts the files that I copy, however it will only play the mp3 formatted songs.

What are my options to use this mp3 player?

Do I really have to convert ALL those songs from ogg-vorbis to mp3 ?!?!?

Thanks for the help

yup,, i bet cause it is an mp3 player.. so it isnt an ogg player. no biggy lame. google lame, and there are many front ends, like grip. you can even set the quality settings. is there some reason you want the files to be ogg? they are big, and have no noticable difference in sound.

The same way we used to use them with Windows, we copy mp3 files to it and listen to them when we are out and about.

Yeah.....I got an iRiver player for Christmas, the salesman told my wife it would play nicely with Linux, and would play OGG Vorbis. Turned out that this wasn't strictly true (or even close). Some iRiver players will play ogg with a firmware upgrade. None play nice with Linux. They barely play nice with Windows! Three emails (the first two polite and seeking help, the third querying their interest in their customers and products) to iRiver...no answer!

Basically, get an mp3 player that will truly behave as a USB storage device, and use that. Don't belive the salesman. Don't buy iRiver. Or just use a laptop. I had a depressing experience!

yup, and alot of the players cant play anything if there is mixed content on the player, like mp3 and ogg. or mp3 and wav. wierd huh. ipods work great... but are expensive. but still. work. that is what matters int he end.
