How do you use Linux?

Hi,

Am just curious to know how do you use Linux. This is not a success story post. I want to know how/where/why do *you* use Linux?

Welcome to LQ, Geeky_Kid.

I use Linux in my dorm room to write code in and also for anything else I need my computer for besides Windows-only games.

So lets see... I use Linux for...
-Writing code
-surfing the web
-IM
-email
-hosting HalfLife/Counterstrike/Specialists servers
-File sharing
-Remote access via VNC
-Samba network filesharing
-Writing documents
-Spreadsheet
-Probably more that I am forgetting

So, I use Linux for nearly everything.

I use Linux for everything except DirectX games(because I couldn't get WineX to compile). I hate dependency hell, though. I can't wait to try Debian out on my new computer next year. Then I won't have those annoying dependencies screaming at me any more, and no more cases of installing software that's incompatible with each other.

We really don't need another thread asking this when we can contribute to the other thread that has now over a thousand replies and posts: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...threadid=20679

Closing this thread and redirecting members to contribute to the existing thread.

Regards.
