How do we make parent-child process become separated parallel

How do we make parent-child process become separated simultaneous parallel processes by means of Bash script/commands on xterm terminal

Then user may terminate the parent process with no effect whatsoever to the child…
I got in bash at xterm and tried to execute iexplore and tried to kill the shell:

$ iexplore ;exit
$ bg & iexplore ;exit
$ iexplore.exe &&fg ;exit

to no avail
thanks in advance
