A modem should be an externel interface (SuSE firewall external that is, not to confuse with external vs internal modem).
One of the firewall rules is to to block incoming connections unless they are initiated by you. This is how a response from a web site for example is allowed. Take a look at the /etc/services file. It lists the port numbers used by standard services.
I did a grep modem /etc/services. 6 lines showed up. 2 with a vmodem.
it was like port 380... and 31xx something. I'm getting unknown host from konqueror. For some reason I had to uninstall the modem driver, I forget why. But I know I had it working before.
I'm using another computer to type this. I get unknown host from every where. I have the primary and secondary dns if needed. but...ok.. it's a linuxant trial.. up to 14k. is that the problem?
