How do I use Linux POST command to send text to remote server

I have some soap/xml text (currently in a file) that I need to send to a remote server for processing via http (or https) and wait for a response message. It looks like the lwp-request (GET, HEAD, POST) command can do it but am having trouble getting it to work. Does anyone have any examples of how do to this from the bash command line?

You can use the 'curl' utility to do this. Since you're doing SOAP, you need to use https. This can be tough - you need to have the right client certs set up.
curl --data @your-file --cacert your-ca-cert-bundle https://your.url/
The '@' is important.
