How do I run the RH9 metacity script?

Hello,

I'm using RH9 for the first time today and am a total noob at Linux. I'm trying to run a command "$chmod 755 schemarest.sh" for a script called "metacity.sh" so that I can change my theme. Whenever I try and run it the terminal says "755 command not recognised" but I know this command does work so it must be something I'm doing wrong. Please help!

as root: 'chmod 755 schemarest.sh'
this should work

I have just tried typing in:

'chmod 755 metacity.sh' (thats the name of the script I created) and it seems to have done something. I suppose I have to restart Redhat for the script to take effect.

Edit: I have just ran the script and now I can change the themes . I was typing $chmod, instead of just chmod like you said so thanks for the advice.
