How do I remove these icons from my desktop?

I want to remove the Floppy and CDROM icons from my desktop, but I don't know how. Right clicking on the icons doesn't do anything, and I can't move them to the Trash either. Please help. Thanks in advance.

I have an image below to show you what I'm talking about:
