How do I print to a Windows printer server?

Do I need to enable the local "lpd"?

yep lpd needs to be running, and although i've never done it before you should just be able to pass the share name into as you would do in windows, if not just mount the share via samba and cat <file> >> <share> (of course this will just work for text files )

I'm at school so I don't remember exactly how I did it, but I bet I know enough to kelp ya. Somewhere in your "start" menu (what do they call that in Linux?) there should be printer settings. Click on it, and when the window pops up, click add. Go through all the fill-it-in stuff, but select "samba" when it somes up.

And when selecting drivers, remember, all the printers in the driver selection are all little folders, so you have to open them up and select a driver from the list for your printer. The best one's most likely the one with an asterisk next to it. This confoosed me for a day or two

if the first page prints out with a "stair-stepping" effect, this is because linux is only sending LF as a line termination charactor, u need to enable CR/LF line termination, i'm not sure off the top of my head how to do this, it may require a print filter of some sort.. and it's harder to do in LPD than in CUPS
