Cool How do i make a mac seem more like Linux?

I'm not realy sure where to put this so i put it here.

the day is drawing near when i will finaly give in and switch to a mac. id like to get a mac laptop for colledge. ive been useing a mac g5 for the first semester of my senior year in high shcool. there are a great many things i like about it, but also there quite a few that i dont. if i get a mac i dont want to put linux on it. ill do that with another computer. so my queston is this...

Is there a way to make a mac seem more like linux without being to stressfull on my brain?

i really like the basic linux filesystem. users should be in /home, programs should be in /user/share, things should be mounted on /mnt... and so on. thats one of my major isues, but i guess i could get past that eventualy. i would also like to know, would something like the gnome desktop run smoothly on a mac? i realy love having multiple desktops. gnome is the best of course. ive found that there is no way to view hidden files in finder. you could get another program to view them of course but thats just to much mess to deal with.

basically i want to turn on my mac laptop, be greeted with GDM, choose gnome or whatever standard mac uses, and login. at this point i want to be able to go to a folder type in /home/nenyo and see all my hidden files. is that realy to much to ask?

sorry if i sound a bit repetitive...
I apologize if i said things more than once...

Get something like YellowDog Linux, Gentoo PPC or Debian PPC and install Linux on your Mac.

as i said i realy dont want to put linux on it. i would want the support from apple should anything ever go wrong. i would however like to get a desktop pc for other stuff, so i wouldn't be completly "linuxless".

i think it is posible to get gnome to run on a mac but i would still like to know how smoothly it would run and how easily installable it would be.

A MAC may be more Unix than windows is, but trying to get either one to look and act like linux is nigh impossible. I've never owned a MAC but I've played long enough with a few of them to know I'll never get one. Besides whatever you're going to have to do to the MAC OS to make it more linux like will probably get your support from Apple denied anyhow. Like installing the Gnome Desktop and GDM, for example.

ok thanks anyway. thats the answer i was kind of expecting. if i cant do either of those things then i would like to at least install another file manager, like konquerer or nautilus, without the rest of the corresponding desktop environment. would that be possible?

look man, a mac is cool, relax, you'll get used to it quite fast. It's a very secure system, and if you get 'lock up' software (at least you used to need such stuff before, to really get into the mac) you can learn a lot. As i remember you will find it faster than what you would expect from the Mhz etc. And you could also partiion you HD if you're serious about needing both.
