How do I install thunderbird (not icedove) in debian lenny?

I need to save mail attachments in a separate directory in order to keep mail file slim, and icedove doesn't seem to have that funcionality

Doesnt work

after unapcking and typing thunderbird returns command not found, and if you try to install thunderbird, the apt returns that thunderbird is not available, but is referred to by another package.

Did you type ./thunderbird in the directory that you unpacked to? I think if you want thunderbird and not icedove you have to do without using aptitude. I might be wrong and it may just require using a different repository. I had this problem too when I tried debian a long time ago. Maybe someone else can give a better answer.
