it was a tar.gz or something like that. I am a complete newb at linux. Months ago I installed this driver, but formatted the hard drive, and now i have to do it again. I don't know what other information to supply. Thanks!

I'm sorry if this was asked before. I tried looking for modem topics, but couldn't find any

Please help. This is sort of urgent. Thank you.

With a tar.gz package you would normally do this in a terminal: tar -zxvf package.tar.gz > cd into the new directory > ./configure > make > make install.

in addition to what lachlan said - after you untar the tar.gz file and change into the newly created directory, be sure to look for _and read_ any INSTALL, README, or similarly-named file that might give you instructions or procedures specific to that driver.

Help. I typed in what you said and it said bash: and something like command not found or invalid command or something.

Can you give me an example instead of just parameters? Thanks for your effort.

Ok I typed what lachlan said, but it just made ugly errors. This is exactly what I typed:

tar -zxvf /home/nathan/modem/PCI_56K_V2_K2.2.16.tar.gz > ./configure > make > make install

then it said this:

tar (child): /home/nathan/modem/PCI_56K_V2_K2.2.26.tar.gz: Cannot open: No such file or directory
tar (child): Error is not recoverable: exiting now
tar: Child returned status 2
tar: install: Not found in archive
tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors

I typed exactly what you said, and I still can't get it to work. I know for a fact it can work, because I did it before...I just forgot what to do!!! I'm going to pull my hair out! Obviously when it comes to Linux, I am a total complete newborn. Please don't assume I know one thing about it. I probably don't understand something you take for granted and figured that I know.

I know there is a syntax, so an example of a fake install would be helpful.

Thanks

sounds like you had the wrong path or file name to me

I would first cd to the directory u saved it in then try

tar -zxvf PCI_56K_V2_K2.2.16.tar.gz
