Someone please give me the steps to install a printer.


I'm replacing a Netware 3.x server and have everything working except the printing. I might need help making it work with Samba too. Sorry I'm so dumb.

NOS- RedHat v9 (Server mode, no xwindows!)
Current printer for testing is canon bjc250 but will eventually have an
Epson DFX5000.
Parallel port is standard LPT1, 378 or is it /dev/lp0 now?

I'm counting on this being robust and not failing. The Netware 3.x doesn't like 40GB of storage and nic drivers are getting hard to come by.

Hi barnman2000, welcome to lq. Looks like you're in luck in both cases. I'll suggest setting up the printers via cups. You can find documentation here.

Thanks for the url's Peacedog.. I got it to print the date so it's working. Now I gotta figure out how to share a directory and print via samba without running xwindows.
