How do i get rid of twm and go back to KDE?
OK, i screwed with my XF86Config. Sure it said not to, but my video card driver will allow me to use dual monitors if i edit it.
I was trying to get the SiS xabre 400 to function in dual monitor mode. I installed the driver from Thomas Winischaufer, and tried SiSCtrl, but that just DOES NOT RUN. Ok, so it said add a monitor 1 and screen 1...etc...i tried that, X wouldnt load. I had backed up my configure file. So i reverted it back to the old one. GREAT! But now when i boot, i get an ugly gray screen, with twm as the manager. So i open up xterm, type kde. Kde loads no prob, only the darn twm handles are on top of EVERYTHING. So id like to know, how do i get back to KDE as my default window manager without twm screwing it up and running on top of it? Once i do that i can continue tinkering with xfree86 and my SiS drivers.... |
make sure your ~/.xinitrc file executes startkde.
and /etc/X11/xinitrc/ directory also has an xinitrc file...... make sure it is also exec startkde and not twm........... what happens when you use "kdm" instead of "startx"?? |
i got it guys. I read around here someone had the same problem with FC1. Im on SuSE. Some file , i think its desktop in X11(?) one of the first lines is
DEFAULT DESKTOP= And above it i had the choices of twm, xdm, gdm, and kdm. Switched it to kdm and im back...i just gotta figure out my dual head problem... |
