I've seen this same problem, just tonight in fact.
I've installed RedHat 9 three times.
My solution was to alter the BIOS setup to boot
from the LILO drive.

You can fix this problems several different ways.

The easy way though is to use a Win 98 boot disk and boot from it. At the prompt type 'fdisk /mbr' You reformat you Master Boot record (MBR) and then everything will work fine.

You can also do this from booting of your Linux CD into repair (?) mode and then fox your MBR there to.

Once i format my MBR, what will be the OS that will be loaded, i have my Windows in /dev/hda12 and my linux in /dev/hda6, but when i try to boot with /dev/hda12, it stops at LIL-. Linux boots fine.

Can you explain in detail, how fdisk /mbr solves this issue.

Ok well here I found this on what LIL- stands for ok.

LIL- The descriptor table is corrupt. This can either be caused by a geometry mismatch or by moving /boot/map without running the map installer.

Boot from a boot disk (hope you created one when installing). run /sbin/lilo that should configure the lilo file. if you need to edit the lilo file it can be found at /etc/lilo.conf make sure to make a copy incase you change to much info to remember how it all was.

To see what the dual boot configuration shoudl be like run a quick search on google cause I can't remember off the top of my head and I'm at work on a windows machine :-(

For more detail/step by step how to fix the lil- boot error search google or go here

That's the google search that will show you many different ways to fix the error.

Also you may find it better to use GRUB instead of LILO. I use to always use lilo though once I have used GRUB it is betetr to use. personal choice by me though.

Sorry I'm not much more help I hardly use lilo though and well would be one of those things I would need to be infront of to play with and fix.
