How do i find out if the machine is 64-bit or 32-bit?

Hi

How can i find out if a machine is 64-bit or a 32-bit when using linux?

I tried the command /proc/cpuinfo, but i didnt think it specified anything useful. I didnt see any "x86_64" descriptions.

Try with

uname -a

It will say to you which kernel are you using

$uname -m

That will show you the architecture of your machine and from the results you can determine whether you have a 64 or 32 bit cpu.
