How Do I Do a Secure FTP of a File to the root Directory on CentOS

I am running WHM and CPANEL on centos.

I would like to upload a file to the root user directory.

To be honest, my only experience uploading and downloading files with FTP has been with domain related accounts that were set up under WHM to be managed under CPANEL. This is quite simple, because all you do is set FileZilla or Dreamweaver up with the FTP address of the domain account and the username and password.

How can I do something similar to FTP a file into the root or home directory?

I realize I am completely ignorant about this, so maybe just a simple answer followed by a suggestion of what I should read would help.

I am most appreciative. Thanks.

The root home directory is set up without write permissions except for root. You would have to give whichever FTP client the root username and password. This is fundamentally a bad idea. If it were me, I'd be more inclined to set up a user expressly for this purpose. The files can then be periodically copied to their final destinations via a cronjob.

So the path of the file would go like this: FTP client --> FTP user's home directory --> files copied periodically from FTP user's directory to final destination by way of cron.

Setting up FTP (as well as some other possibly useful services):

Using cron:
