Red face How do i assign keys to adjust CRT monitor brightness w/o FN key or physical controls

Im using an eMac, iMacs and eMacs do not have physical controls on the CRT monitor, and desktop keyboards generally do not have FN keys. I want to be able to either emulate an FN key or assign the function to another key combination, or adjust the brightness through command line. The gnome and kde brightness applets don't work. Ive been using xgamma for now but that only deals with gamma.

If it can be done with an FN key there's got to be some way to do it without.

OK, I'm not sure what your asking here... whether you can change the brightness in software, or how to assign a control key to do it.

You should be able to find a little app that will display the scancode of a key/key combination, and just use Command+Number as it is in OS X.

As for the actual changing of brightness, that would be platform specific to Macs.
