how do i add a local user that can use x window?

hi,

how do i add a local user that can use x windows?

iam root under the system and want a user that can use stuff like xmms and netscape etc ... when i add a user and try to start upp gnome i got alot of errors ..

and when i su to the user under the root accont and try to start
xmms (for example) i get the error msg ::

Code:

Xlib: No protocol specified

** CRITICAL **: Unable to open display
