how can i tell if my kernel has compiled successfully

simply stated in the subject how can i tell if my kernel has compiled successfully, and if grub was configured properly. i have compiled to make linux work with/for the athalon and not intel. some games, originally sluggish, seem to have not been affected by the kernel compilation or whatever.

If it finished making without any errors then is compiled successfully, and if it boots then your set to go.

Great, does all your hardware work?
If so then you have a custom kernel

yes all of my hardware works
im just concerned that i may have not configured grub correctly and it may be booting to the old kernel, ( all of my hardware worked before, it just wasnt optimized for the athalon)

Do "uname -a" to see what kernel is running.
