how can I reinstall software if my internet is down?
I accidentally wrecked my internet connection by uninstalling some part of KDE that controlled the network. (How am I here? I used a liveCD to get online.) Since the only way I know how to install any Linux software is via the internet, how am I supposed to reinstall the needed network software if I can't get online to get it? The only solution I know is to reinstall the entire distro.
I wish I could use my distro's liveCD to reinstall software without reinstalling the entire distro, but if that's possible, I've never known how.
You can manually download the required packages using your favourite web browser, transfer them to your broken system, then use dpkg(8) (Mepis is derived from Debian, right?) to install them.. simples!
Distribution: Debian Wheezy, Jessie, Sid/Experimental, playing with LFS.

+1, check on your hard drive in the location above. If it is there you can follow the process pointed out above OR you could use synaptic to re-install it as it will find the copy in the cache anyway.
