How can I prevent the CLI from turning off my moniter?

I was installing Gentoo for the first time, I got to the point of compiling my kernels when the CLI decided to turn off my moniter in such a way that I can't get the moniter to turn back on unless I did a reboot. Now I have to remount the partitions I made, and re-do the kernel compilation because I don't know if it finished or not.

So how can I keep the CLI from turning off my moniter in any way?

Maybe it's just doing a "screensaver"

I get that too. Usually just hitting the spacebar brings the text back up. What power management stuff have you enabled in BIOS?

I dunno, I don't usually look in the bios unless I need to change to boot up options.
