How can I install knoppix or mepis not just on / partition?

To clarify, by default, these two distributions install everything onto the / partition, I can't have my own /var, /tmp and /usr, etc. How can I do that? Is that possible?

Many thanks

You could try and edit the hdinstall script, it's just plain text (this is knoppix i'm talking about, don't know about mepis)
Also, you could just let it install all to / but already have the other partitions prepared, then mv the stuff over, and change your fstab. This is probably going to need a lot of disk space to be able to shuffle this stuff around though, and you might need to use GNU Parted if space is tight.
