As far as I know, ext3 filesystems cannot (yet) be accessed with write permissions, because of issues with the journal. However, there are solutions for reading ext2/3 partitions: i've been using ext2fsd (http://ext2fsd.sourceforge.net) for some time now, and can read perfectly. Supposedly it has some limited write capability, but I haven't tested it.
