Hosts File Question

I have made entries in my hosts file to block ads, etc. However, when I want to allow communication with one of the sites that I have in my hosts file (/etc/hosts), I comment out the line with the url but I still can't connect to the site. Am I forgetting to do something? Any ideas? Thanks for your time...

prolly restart network? btw, if you want to scrub for ads you better use a browser that can handle blocking sites (Opera) or a proxy that handles specific URI's (f.i.: Junkbuster, Squid).

The hosts file should be updated automatically I'd think....unless I'm wrong, when a computer asks for a resolution of an IP it will look in the /etc/hosts file every time...

Try restarting the firewall

Try restarting the firewall like this:

service ipchains restart

Errr...You may want to edit the /etc/hosts.deny file instead. This file would deny connections from IPs listed in that file. /etc/hosts simply lets you specify names in place of IP addresses.
