Unhappy Hostname/computer name

I run dual boot XP/redhat8.0. During RH8 setup it asked for host name. i wasn't sure what to pick so i let it choose. it came up with "x1-6-00-50-ba******" Is this gibberish or does it mean something? In XP I use the name given to me by my cable provider (atnt) "c1072****" . Should i try to change it to that? and if so how? i found how to change the hostname on the net. It was localhost.local domain, i changed it to c1072****. but i am not sure It did anything or that that was the right thing to change. I also get the error when booting into Gnome "Could not look up Internet address for x1-6-00-******* " . Does this mean i have the wrong name for it? Any help would be nice

Thank you,
Brad

that name will be your identifier with your ISP, your account number or similar. use the "hostname" program to set it to whatever you want.
