Home Cinema

Hi all,

I do not know if this is the right place for may question... but I think this could be a interesting topic.

I would like to build my personal home cinema.
Instead of buying a DVD and loud speakers I would like to build a personal computer able to replace them. What I am thinking about is a system completely integrated in my house, connected to my TV and able to surf the INTERNET using my wireless LAN.

This is the first time I am trying to build a new PC from the really first step, so I will take any advise about everything: motherboard, sound card, DVD, ...

Thank you all that will want to participate to this project :D

p.s.

you would have understood English is not my first language, I am sorry for my errors and if what I meant is not clear

Hello,

I found this article http://www.linuxis.us/linux/media/howto/linux-htpc/, it gives a good guide to building a HTPC. I recommend that you read it before going further.

On the motherboard side of things there are basically two sides to go for.
  • You could use an AMD or Intel based system. These are generally ATX sized boards. They generate quite a bit of heat, so require substantial cooling systems. but are much more expandable, and usually more powerful
    OR
A VIA based boards. These mainly come in mini-ITX size (17cm x 17cm). The main advantage of these is that they run cooler and so are quieter.
You will still have to get a speaker system for it though. But you may not need a separate DTS or DD decoder as some sound cards will do it for you.

:)
