His computer cant install linux ???

I didnt really know what forum to place in....

Ok my friend is trying to install Fedora Code2 (but this is not specific to this distro, but is a problem on any linux install.)

When he boots from Disk 1 and gets to the prompt where you can type what you want to do 'linux text....' his pc will then reboot at that point

he is fairly good with computers and claims
"Linux will not work on my computer"

the software I gave him is fine, and it has worked fine on ALL computers its been installed on.

this is a '400$' Wal*Mart computer so im kinda leaning to his hardware.
Here's what I know

2.53 ghz celeron
256 mb ddr
40 gb hdd
8 mb intem xtreme gfx onboard card
nvidia gforce 440 64 mb pci

Any help would be great becouse I know he would enjoy getting Windows of his computer. -John

I had a problem with the system hanging when I tried to install Mandrake with my very first Linux install and eventually isolated the problem to the fact that APIC was disabled in bios. Check to make sure it is enabled.

his computer can,t install linux

guipenguin; advice given is valid. more advice: check bios for correct choices before installing os then during os install go methodically step by step ,slowly with lots of patience and choose very carefully everything. question? has friend worked with dos or
unix? that would be helpful with text mode if not then advice go with gui. better. warning linux is speed-demon
so pay close attention to screen and pause it to repeat. do not overlook any thing!

He hasnt gotton back to me about weather APIC is enabled or not.

I was giving 'linux text' as an example of a command you could type at that momment, to show where in the steps of install he has stuck on. He cant go, 'methodically step by step ,slowly with lots of patience' becouse his computer reboots before he can use the gui or text install, like 2 sec after the install screen when insert first disk

I had similar problems. First try Knoppix and then try Vector Linux.

Presently I use Vector Linux but Knoppix also works on my PC.
