Question HFS (Macintosh) floppies

Is dd able to make and write disk images of HFS floppies? And if it can, is it possible to mount images like CD images can be mounted?

Linux has support for mac filesystems, you just need to load the module before you try to mount it.

The modules are in my kernel, but I can't mount the floppies after I give them back to their owner. If I can get images of these floppies, I can tar/gzip the files and keep them on a removable media disk. And once I need them again, I can extract and write new floppies from the images.

Why not try it? Rather than mount the floppies, try just dding them to a series of files. If you then burn them to a CD, you might be able to simply loop mount the floppy images and use them as if the actually disk were in the drive (except faster).

Note: I've never done this with floppies, so I can't say for sure that it'll work. What have you got to lose, though?

dd if=/dev/fd0 of=nameofdisk.img should do the trick.
