try :
echo "your_new_machine_name" > /etc/hostname

then if you don't want to reboot :
source /etc/profile

On Fedora, it should be laid out just like Redhat so you want to edit these files:

/etc/hostname
/etc/hosts <-only if it has your hostname with IP listed, leave the localhost entry there
/etc/sysconfig/network
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-ethX <- only if you connect via ethernet, replace the X with the proper eth number, if you have just one ethernet card, it should be eth0.

And then you can either /sbin/service netjwork restart and or reboot the machine.

trickykid : I am not an expert nor a fan of RH-like distro, I don't quite understand what is RH/Fedora doing with the 3 last files, I mean, yeah ok confuguring network, but what's the hostname use in there?

Redhat will setup and configure it's hostname from the network configuration files I've listed, that's the reasoning I've included these files, especially if your using DHCP so your hostname isn't overwritten each time, etc.
