Question help with patch command

Hello everybody, I have an easy problem…

I’m having problems using the patch command to patch ppp. When I issue the command

zcat ppp-2.4.1-openssl-0.9.6-mppe-patch.gz | patch –p0

from the /usr/src directory I get:

Bash: patch: command not found

zcat: ppp-2.4.1-openssl-0.9.6-mppe-patch.gz: not in gzip format

I am running Redhat 7.2

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Are you in the directory of the source you are patching? i.e. To patch the reiserfs for kernel 2.4.5 I have to be IN /usr/src/linux-2.4.5 and then type (this is where my patch file is)zcat /usr/src/linux-2.4.5-reiserfs.gz | patch -p1. The option is specific per the patch, but this could be the case. Is there a readme that tells you what you need to do or where to be? I may have confused everything here, sorry lol, but if you have any clarification questions feel free to anyone.

thanks!

Boy do I feel stupid, when I installed RedHat I chose custom install and only installed what I thought that I needed. Unfortunately I didn’t have patch installed, after I installed it there were no problems!

Thanks for your help!
