Help with Large DUMP file.

Hello,

I have made an full backup of a partition using Dump,
on RHEL. At the time I did not notice the size of the dump file, until
too late. My problem now is I need to restore some imnportant
info from that dump. The dump file is a little over 6Gb in size.
The Restore command cannot read it, (wont initialize symbol table).
So I copied it across the network to a Solaris mcahine, and tried
ufsrestore. Same problem. From what I have read, this is a problem
with the size of the file to be restored.

My questions are:

Are there any util's that can handle a huge dump?

Is there a way to split the file into smaller pieces?

Is there any other way of approaching this problem?

Thanks

There is the program "split". That will part your dump into chunks. Extracting your data from those will be a mighty task (read: near impossible except for file system exerts). Sorry, no answers for your other questions.
