Help with GRUB

I just finished reinstalling GENTOO and I'm having problems with grub.

/dev/hdc1 = root
/dev/hdc2 = boot
/dev/hdc3 = swap

I tried doing this

grub> root (hd0,1)
grub> setup(hd0)

However when I reboot I get Error 19 message from grub and can't boot anything

Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong?

since you're using secondary master for root (/dev/hdc1),
you shouldn't use hd0 on the GRUB root declaration.......
it's for primary master.

From the Grub Manual ( http://www.gnu.org/software/grub/man...roubleshooting ), error 19 is:

“Linux kernel must be loaded before initrd
This error is returned if the initrd command is used before loading a Linux kernel.”

Sounds like a problem in your grub.conf setup.
