Help with filesharing!!


Is there a way for somebody to get into your computer and see and copy the documents by going somehwere and typing in a password??? Or is there another way for me to share files from my computer to another and vice versa??

You mean file sharing? Yeah of course. Samba is the linux file sharing service.

yep u can share ur files b/w windows and linux thru samba and b/w linux to linux thru nfs

now its upto u to which way u want it.. :-)

Thru samba u can acces shares between linux machines as well thru smbclient utility that works just like an ftp client. for more detail read smbbclient man page which says

"smbclient is a client that can 'talk' to an SMB/CIFS server. It offers an interface similar to that of the ftp program (see ftp(1)). Operations include things like getting files from the server to the local machine, putting files from the local machine to the server, retrieving directory information from the server and so on. "
