I started installing alsa driver with ./configure and received this message : ( this is just the relevant part, all else seems ok)

Please, install the package with full kernel sources for your distribution
or use --with-kernel=dir option to specify another directory with kernel
sources (default is /usr/src/linux).

Please, run the configure script as first...

unless i am mistaken, you need to install your kernel source.

I thought it would already be installed since this is a fresh install of slack 9. How do i know which source to install? Any tips how how to do that?

thanks for mentioning your distribution. go here, then find
a close mirror. now go to /slackware-9.0/slackware/k and
get 'kernel-source-2.4.20-noarch-5.tgz'. use 'installpkg
kernel-source-2.4.20-noarch-5.tgz' from a root console to
install the kernel source.
