help saving files and moving with thumb drive

I'm new to linux, and I'm using the the auditor security collection. A distribution of knoppix, and although I've figured out alot, one of the most simple things is still baffling me. How to save files.

Now I was able to use the mount command and mount a thumb drive and save to that ok, but then when I unmount it and take it to my other computer and mount it there I can't find the files i just saved.

Also I haven't been able to save or locate any files without using the thumb drive. I see ones that have saved to the desktop, and I'll go to properties and it will specify their location like home/knoppix/desktop for example, well when I use the konsole and get into the home/knoppix/desktop directory, they aren't there. Same thing if I try to save to /ramdisk , then i go in there and can't find them.

Can someone please tell me how to save files and also transfer them properly with the thumb drive?

Make sure the thumb drive is using a file system recognized by both PC's. After you mount it do a "mount" command and see how it was mounted, i.e. what file system it mounted it as.
