Help please, before I throw my box out the window

Hi all, although I'm not a complete newb to linux, I'm also far from being an expert and in my recent install of Mandrake 8.2 I've run into a few problems that are driving me to drink an unatural mixof coffee and alcohol.
First problem is with my new Radeon 8500 agp, Mandrake is recognizing it just fine but I can't seem to run anything with glide, call my fussy but I love tuxracer and it hurts to not play
I've tried to research this but I can't seem to find anyone else who's had similar problems, any help with this would be adored.

2nd problem is that whenever I log into gnome, I get a pop up message that tells me gnome could not find an internet connection or something like that and because of this Gnome will not run well. Although I don't see Gnome reacting badly, It's a pain either way.

There's a few other problems, but really I think I'm asking to much as it is and I apologize in advance for the long post, really sorry if I annoyed anyone.

Thanks again in advance,
Jadasin.

Welcome!

Call me super fussy I play games only on console. Why bother with driver/install/troubleshooting when I can just throw a disk in and play?

No idea about Radeon. Nice. My family has a lowly Celeron. ATI is on it. What I did is to pick an older X without hardware acceleration. You have the option to choose/correct a video card AND test it during install.

Tell me about your internet. DSL/cable or dialup?

Nope, not too much. The more the merrier.

Thanks for the reply, I love the console gaming too but there's just something about taking a break from surfing around to hurtle a penguin down a hill that get's me gigling.
So hence why I would love to get my glide to work, hopefully someone will come up with something soon.

As for my connection, I'm running cable connection and like I said im not experiencing any problems with the connection or with Gnome reacting poorly, just that silly message every time I log in.

Thanks again.
