Help needed with answering a couple of questions
Hi
I have a couple of questions that would be nice if someone answered. I actually want to get rid of windows, because im want to use a linux distro as my only system. I have used linux for years, but always had to have windows too. There are two reasons why i have to have windows installed. The first one is that i would like to play "condition zero" with graphics that works (i have an intel based graphics card on a laptop). The other reason is that i have to be able to watch my lecture videos wich runs in windows media player with DRM and here its required that i also use IE. I have tried to run IE with wine and mplayer with plugins and codecs, but this doesnt work. What i have been able to get is only the sound and no picture. That being said i dont think there should be so much stuff you have to do to get this to work under linux when you alternatively could just run it in 1min under windows. So, does someone have any suggestions or answers to what i can do to resolve this so i can only use linux, more specifially for example ubuntu, debian or suse. |
Are you sure they are DRMed Windows Media files? If so, I'm not sure you'd be able to run that without trying to run windows media player under wine.
Even Counter Strike: Source is supposed to run under Wine, so I think it should run CS:CZ just fine. Failing that, Cedega should handle it. |
The website that uses it is cbtnuggets(.com) so you can check it out yourself to get a closer look at how they use drm and windows media. I also get a message saying that you have to run IE to be able to play any of those videos.
I have installed and been running condition zero with cedega, the problem is that the graphics is way too slow in linux. Quote:

You should email them and ask how Linux users are supposed to be able to make use of their site. (Sorry, tiny annoyance about windows-only sites)
Failing that, have you tried WMP in Wine? |
Im quite sure i have tried windows media player in crossover office and then it probably didnt work because then i think i would remembered it. Im going to try it again after i have got my debian system up again.

what about spoofing the browser id to that of IE, make sure mplayer is installed ,plus codecs and browser plugins.
