First off, please don't type in all caps, its comes as if your yelling and is sort of rude.
Second, you'll need to boot into single user mode, where you can change the password there from a shell prompt.
What boot loader are you using?

One thing that the above answers leave out is that if you can log in as root, you can then change any user's password. So, if you have lost YOUR password, log in as root (possibly by booting into single user mode) and change the password for yourself.

Ummm.. His question clearly states he forgot root's password, so your solution is pointless or in no help to him really..

When I forgot my root password (once) I just do re-install (not again) :-(
(Fortunately I have a rescue CD, backup important data and setup easily)
Sorry, but never ever forget your root passwd, write it down, put it in a save place.
I have lado's link for sometime and it is very good for Newbies in Linux Administrator. Check it out ;-)
Have fun :-)
