Help Linux Commands

Hai,

I want to know how can I come to know the version of the kernel as well as changing the label of a partition.

Hey Generally I wan to know how can I come to know a command from man? Ie can I give a little description about that and get the thing? Is there any option for it. Or is there any good help in Linux rather than the man?

A bunch of thanks in Advance.

Bye .

A good refernce is help.

e.g. :
vi --help

This displays the options for vi like
vi -R file.txt
to open the file.txt in readonly mode

To know the version of the kernel type uname -r
Well as said man -k can easily give what you want
example: man -k browser
There is a better system called info pages.
Either you can browse info pages through xemacs(if you are comfortable with guis) or type pinfo in linux console.
The links are much the same as the vim pages.
That is p is previous u is up right arrow next link left arrow previous link / search and so on
